Zhang Weili on the Mind-Body Connection

Zhang Weili made history as the first fighter from China to win a UFC championship.

Coming from a humble background, she had to overcome multiple hardships to achieve her dreams.

Despite — or perhaps because of the challenges she’s had to overcome — Zhang Weili has learned to master both her body and her mind.

"Sweeping is the first step of a beginner's training," she said, "Because it will quiet your mind. If you sweep too hard, you will make dust everywhere. But the leaves are still there.

"It's like meditation.

"When you reach a certain level in martial arts, you will see a lot of philosophy...

“When you calm yourself down, your mind will become sharp.”

-Zhang Weili

"When you calm yourself down, your mind will become sharp. You will feel like your opponent is moving very slowly.

"Everything is about quieting your mind and letting your "chi" sink down. But if you don't let your "chi" fill your mind, you can become arrogant and reckless. That is not good."

According to research from Harvard Professor, Ellen Langer, one’s mental attitude can improve physical health and even reverse the effects of aging.

She states that “...virtually all of our problems, whether they are physical, interpersonal, professional, global, [are] the result indirectly or directly of our mindlessness, which means that [with] simple changes, we can produce vast improvements in every aspect of our lives.”

One powerful method that many top athletes use to make the most of their mind-body connection and reach their full potential is sports hypnosis.

Research has shown that hypnosis can help athletes

  • Relieve stress and anxiety

  • Reduce fears

  • Quickly learn and improve their technique

  • Aid in sleep,

and even

  • Quickly relieve fatigue and restore energy.

Regardless of whether or not you are an athlete, hypnosis can help you overcome your blocks and make the most of your mind-body connection, too.
